Specialised Psychological Care for Life’s More Complex Challenges
Some mental health concerns need more than general support - they need clinical expertise and specialised training.
At East Brunswick Psychology, our team of psychologists has specific experience working with conditions that can be difficult to diagnose, challenging to treat, or simply hard to talk about with someone who hasn't worked extensively in those areas.
We're a small practice located in the Wellness Centre at East Brunswick Village. Our size allows us to maintain high standards of care while offering genuine continuity - you'll see the same psychologist across your sessions, which research suggests supports better therapeutic relationships.

What Makes Clinical Psychology Different
Clinical psychologists complete additional postgraduate training (typically 6+ years of university study) and are trained in psychological assessment, diagnosis, and evidence-based treatment for more complex presentations.
While all registered psychologists can provide effective therapy, you may benefit from seeing a clinical psychologist if:
You've tried therapy before without progress
You're managing multiple mental health concerns simultaneously
You need formal assessment or diagnosis (e.g., ADHD, ASD)
Your concerns involve trauma, eating disorders, or other specialised areas
You're looking for specific therapeutic modalities like EMDR
All our psychologists are registered with AHPRA and maintain professional development in their areas of focus.
How We Work
Evidence-Based Therapeutic Approaches
Our psychologists draw from therapeutic frameworks that are supported by research, including
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
for anxiety, depression, and many other concerns
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
for psychological flexibility and values-based living
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing)
for trauma and PTSD
Trauma-informed care
across all presentations
Schema Therapy
for complex patterns and personality-related concerns
Neurodivergent-affirming approaches
for ADHD and ASD support
Your psychologist will discuss which approaches may be relevant for your situation and will adapt strategies based on your feedback and progress.

Your First Appointment What to Expect
Before Your Session
After booking, you'll receive:
Confirmation email with appointment details
A secure link to complete an intake form (covering consent, fees, privacy, and contact details)
Information about what to expect in your first session
Completing the intake form in advance allows more of your session time to focus on your concerns rather than administrative details.
After Your First Session
There's no pressure to commit to a set number of sessions upfront. Many people begin with weekly or fortnightly appointments and adjust frequency based on their needs and progress.
If at any point you feel the therapeutic relationship isn't the right fit, you're welcome to discuss this with your psychologist or contact our practice to explore other options.
During Your First Session (50 minutes)
Your psychologist will:
Ask what's brought you to therapy at this time
Explore your current situation and relevant background
Discuss your goals for therapy
Begin developing a collaborative treatment plan
Explain which therapeutic approaches may be helpful for your circumstances
Answer your questions about the process
This initial assessment phase typically takes 1-2 sessions. It's an important foundation for personalised treatment.
You can also discuss:
How often you'd like to attend (weekly, fortnightly, or as needed)
Whether in-person or telehealth suits you better
Any concerns or preferences about the therapeutic approach
Fees and Medicare
Medicare Rebates
If you have a valid Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, you may be eligible for Medicare rebates for up to 10 psychology sessions per calendar year.
After each session, we will send your claim to Medicare for assessment and most rebates will be transferred to your account of choice within 2 business days.
Private Health Insurance
Many private health insurers provide rebates for psychology sessions if you have extras cover. Check with your provider about:
Whether clinical psychology is covered under your policy
How much you can claim per session
Whether you need a referral
Any annual limits
Cancellation Policy
Life happens, and we understand that sometimes you need to reschedule. We ask that you provide notice before 10am on the business day prior to your appointment.
For Monday appointments, this means notifying us before 10am on the Friday.
If you're unable to attend in person, we can often switch to a telehealth session instead—just contact us to arrange this.
This policy helps us manage our waitlist and ensure we can support as many people as possible.
